Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), often referred to as the “King of Herbs,” has been a cornerstone of Ayurvedic medicine for over 3,000 years. Traditionally used to promote longevity, vitality, and overall well-being, this adaptogenic herb is gaining recognition in modern wellness circles for its many health benefits. In this article, we will delve into the history of ashwagandha, explore its science-backed health benefits, and discuss why a liposomal ashwagandha tincture might be the most effective way to incorporate this powerful herb into your daily routine.
What is Ashwagandha?
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen—a unique class of herbs that help the body manage stress. It works by balancing cortisol levels, supporting brain function, and promoting relaxation. Its use in Ayurvedic medicine spans centuries, where it has been known to enhance energy, improve cognitive function, and support hormonal balance.
The Rich History & Traditional Use of Ashwagandha
For over 3 millennia, ashwagandha has been revered in Ayurvedic medicine as a powerful Rasayana (rejuvenating tonic). Traditionally, it was used to alleviate stress, boost energy, enhance cognitive function, and balance hormones. The herb was commonly consumed as a powder (churna) mixed with honey, ghee, or warm milk. The name “ashwagandha” combines the Sanskrit words “ashwa” (horse) and “gandha” (smell) because it was known to impart the strength and vitality of a horse.
The Science-Backed Benefits of Ashwagandha
Reduces Stress & Anxiety
Ashwagandha may lower cortisol levels and thereby reduce stress and anxiety. A systematic review of 5 randomized controlled trials found that ashwagandha supplementation significantly reduced anxiety scores by up to 70% in individuals with anxiety disorders or high stress levels.
By balancing the body’s stress response, ashwagandha helps promote a sense of calm, making it ideal for those dealing with daily pressures and high mental strain.
Improves Sleep Quality
Research indicates that ashwagandha may improve sleep quality and help with insomnia. A study found that participants who took ashwagandha extract experienced significant improvements in sleep efficiency, latency, and overall restfulness compared to the placebo group.
Unlike synthetic sleep aids, ashwagandha supports natural sleep cycles without causing grogginess, making it a great long-term solution for improving rest.
Boosts Brain Function & Memory
Ashwagandha supports cognitive health by promoting both focus and memory. A clinical trial found that both acute and 30-day ashwagandha supplementation improved cognitive function and mood markers, showing significant benefits in memory retention, attention span, and reaction time.
This makes it particularly beneficial for students, professionals, and older adults looking to maintain sharp mental performance.
Increases Energy & Endurance
Ashwagandha may reduce fatigue and improve stamina, making it a favorite among athletes and active individuals. A systematic review concluded that ashwagandha supplementation enhances muscular strength, coordination, and cardiorespiratory endurance, leading to better physical performance.
By supporting adrenal health and reducing oxidative stress, ashwagandha helps the body sustain energy levels without the crash associated with caffeine or stimulants.
Balances Hormones & Supports Thyroid Health
Ashwagandha helps adrenal function and supports hormone balance in both men and women. One study indicated that ashwagandha supplementation can increase T3 and T4 thyroid hormone levels, improving thyroid function in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism.
By naturally balancing key hormones, ashwagandha can support fertility, reproductive health, and overall metabolic function.
Promotes Heart & Metabolic Health
Ashwagandha may help lower blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels, promoting better heart and metabolic function. A review of multiple studies found that ashwagandha treatment significantly reduced blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), insulin, blood lipids, and oxidative stress markers—all critical factors in maintaining cardiovascular health.
This makes ashwagandha a valuable addition to a heart-healthy lifestyle, particularly for those looking to support balanced blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
Strengthens Immunity & Reduces Inflammation
Ashwagandha is rich in antioxidants and bioactive compounds that combat free radicals and reduce chronic inflammation. Studies have suggested that ashwagandha exhibits anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, contributing to enhanced immune function, faster recovery from illness, and overall better resilience against infections.
By reducing inflammation at a cellular level, ashwagandha not only strengthens the immune system but also supports joint health, digestion, and overall longevity.
Why Should You Consider an Ashwagandha Supplement?
In today’s fast-paced world, many individuals experience high stress, poor sleep, and chronic fatigue. Incorporating a high-quality ashwagandha supplement can help mitigate these issues by providing consistent and potent doses of the herb’s active compounds. Supplementation ensures that you receive the full benefits of ashwagandha without the need to prepare traditional mixtures, offering a convenient solution for modern lifestyles.
How to Choose the Best Ashwagandha Supplement
When selecting an ashwagandha supplement, consider the following factors:
Look for Full-Spectrum or KSM-66 Extract
These forms ensure high potency and effectiveness. KSM-66, for instance, is one of the most researched forms, clinically proven to support stress relief, sleep, and brain function.
Go for Organic & Additive-Free
Opt for supplements free from synthetic fillers, preservatives, and other additives. Choosing products with organic ingredients ensures you get the benefits of ashwagandha without pesticide exposure. Look for ashwagandha supplements that are third-party tested for purity, potency, and safety. Avoid low-quality products that may contain contaminants, unnecessary fillers, or synthetic additives.
Prioritize High Bioavailability: Why Liposomal Ashwagandha Stands Out
Not all forms of ashwagandha are absorbed equally.
Traditional capsules and powders must go through digestion, which can reduce effectiveness. Liposomal ashwagandha tinctures utilize advanced technology to bypass digestion and deliver ashwagandha directly into the bloodstream, offering superior absorption and faster effects.
This liposomal form is particularly beneficial for individuals with digestive sensitivities or those seeking rapid stress relief, improved sleep, and enhanced energy levels.
How to Take Ashwagandha for Best Results
The best way to take ashwagandha depends on your specific health goals:
- For stress & anxiety relief → Take it in the morning or before stressful situations.
- For better sleep → Take it 30-60 minutes before bed to promote relaxation.
- For energy & performance → Take it before your workout or in the morning to support endurance.
- Recommended dosage: Studies suggest 300-600 mg per day is effective for most benefits, but liposomal tinctures may require a smaller dose due to superior absorption.

Thank you for this very informative and helpful article. I appreciate getting right to the heart of the information. SO MANY times when I have tried to learn about a supplement, I have to watch a long video with many people telling how wonderful the product is before the most important information is given. THANK YOU for not causing us to spend our time on a video!!!!!
Thanks for your article.
I just received an order of Plurality ‘s liposomal Ashwaganda.
Your summary of all the great benefits of this product confirms that I made the right choice.
For the last 2 years I have been taking the powder form of Ashwaganda for the purpose of reducing my stress levels. I am grateful for the improved liposomal form.
Hi Betty! I completely agree! When I see it’s a video, I delete it immediately. They always feel so gimmicky and it’s a very ‘used car salesmen’ type of approach. I am healing SIBO/IMO (the latter is methane SIBO) and the ashwagandha I was taking works great but, has glycerin from flax and flax is fermentable so I can’t take it. Anything fermentable, including probiotics, is like pouring gasoline on an open flame for anyone with SIBO/IMO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth/Intestinal Methane Overgrowth.) I’m excited to check this one out!
Thank You Betty …..
Synchronised perfectly with you on this
commonsense view. Brian does it right.
Thank you Betty and EVERYONE for the kind words! Providing you the most helpful insights and tools like this is — with clarity — is my passion (trying to generate a few laughs sometimes is, too 🙂 )

Thank you for sharing this article. It was very informative. I really appreciate the information on when and how much to take.
I also appreciate not having to watch a long video. I much rather be given the facts with no fear factor thrown in so I can make my own decisions.
very good read. very informative
Betty said everything I was planning to say!
I agree wholeheartedly with the previous text. While I am very interested in nutrition and supplements, I simply don’t have time for long videos that leave the important information till the very last.
I will try this product for myself and family members. Thank you.
Thank you. I enjoy the information you present and always make lots of notes.
I agree with Betty completely. Thank you very much.
Yes, thank you for the direct information without all the “fill” of unnecessary testimonies and other information most of us don’t have time to sit and listen to.
Thank you, I am going to begin taking it maybe tomorrow- just ordered the liposomal format
Thank you for this informative article on ashwagandha! I am adding it to my supplement intake.
Thank you for your informative article on ASHWAGANDHA. I live in Australia and I have been taking organic Ashwagandha powder usually mixed into smoothies or yoghurt. I have had concerns that it was not known the side effects (if any) if taken long term according to articles I’ve read during my limited research on the herb.
I’m considering growing my own bush in my medicinal herb garden I’m slowly creating at home. Therefore, I will make my own tincture and powders. More research into that.
I do appreciate all your articles that you provide as it appears you do all the hard work, research etc on the subjects.
I used to grow my own, when I was younger & had an organic herb farm. I made my own tinctures! Grew it in zone 6! This is an excellant article on the benefits of this herb! Best wishes on your adventure with herbs!
Thank you for this very informative article. I had just purchased ashwaganda at my local health food store. this was very helpful, always trying to get high quality supplements.
Thank you for getting straight to the facts, and benefits without a song and dance or a long boring video.
Found this very informative. Thank you.
Ashwagandha root, ground into a powder, has a warm deliciousness, that makes it easy to drink or add to smoothies or soups. I make a small jug of ashwagandha, cinnamon and reishi tea most days. I use it like cordial, adding some to a cup during the day and pouring over boiling water or adding it to a glass and pouring in some room temperature water.
I just shared your article on my Facebook page. Thank you so much for all your work!
Perfect timing, learning about this unique herb in your latest email to me, Brian. I will immediately forward it to an important, precious friend.
In appreciation of your jokes, is this riddle something you might like to make use of?
What do we all carry around with us all the time, but we can only make use of it IF and WHEN we sit down? Do you give up? ….If so, let me know and l will give you the answer!
Hi, I was tempted to search online for the answer, but did not… and I give up, what is it?
